BIG NEWS: Central Maryland Speech Therapy Program begins after clinic closure

BIG NEWS: When the Loyola University of Maryland's speech and communication clinic in Columbia, Maryland announced it was closing, DSAmd knew we had to step up for our community.

When the clinic closed in May 2023, many people with Down syndrome lost their affordable access to speech and communication therapy. Further, graduates of the Loyola Speech-Language Pathology program would no longer have as much access to working with people who have Down syndrome.

This clinic closure was a huge loss for our community.

After two years of work, DSAmd has coordinated with supervising Speech-Language Pathologist and Loyola graduate, Megan Hayes of Sunflower Speech Therapy LLC. Together in Spring 2024, we will welcome two Loyola University of Maryland graduate students (shout out to Anna and Steph!) for the Spring 2024 semester to provide our community with speech and communication services at low or no cost.

Details as follows:

  • Two program days and locations:

    • Tuesdays, 2pm - 7pm in Howard County

    • Thursdays, 2pm - 7pm in Baltimore

  • Opportunities for tiny group (2-3 people) therapy and social skills groups available

  • 45-minute sessions for 12-weeks

  • People who have Down syndrome will receive first priority, but all people who need speech and communication therapy are welcome to indicate interest

Indicate your interest at this link, and we'll be in touch to finalize details: https://bit.ly/cmstp

(cmstp should be all lowercase - the acronym for the *brand new* "Central Maryland Speech Therapy Program")
